Die Reißinsel liegt westlich des Mannheimer Stadteils Neckarau und wird vom Rhein in einer Schleife umrahmt. Mit rund 100 Hektar zählt sie zu den bedeutendsten Vogelruheplätzen in der Rheinebene, weshalb Teile des Waldes zur Brutzeit im Frühjahr nicht zugänglich sind.
